Kindle Pixel Perfect Holiday Puzzles

Kindle Pixel Perfect Holiday Puzzles- Amazon Listing

On Friday, Amazon released another free game. Pixel Perfect Holiday Puzzles is a holiday version of the original Pixel Perfect Puzzles. I’m glad to see a holiday version of this game be released, as I quite enjoyed the original version.

There are 50 new holiday and winter themed puzzles available in this version, with the breakdown as follows:

11 – Winter Begins
07 – Hanukkah
07 – Christmas
11 – Winter Continues
07 – Kwanzaa
07 – New Years

I am sad to see that Thanksgiving is left off the list, because I’m a big fan of that holiday, but I look forward to playing these puzzles and I hope Amazon continues to release holiday versions of their free games.

I definitely recommend adding this one to your collection. If you’d like to read my review of the original version, it is located here.

Kindle Video Poker Review

Kindle Video Poker Active Content- Amazon Listing

Video Poker: Review Introduction

Video Poker is a casino style poker game for Kindle by Amazon Digital Services. It was released in February 2011. Video Poker is a free game and is rated3.7 stars, with 40 customer reviews.

Video Poker: Main Takeaways

Video Poker is styled after the Vegas-style video poker machine called “Jacks or Better”.

The game starts with the player placing their bet, and then being dealt 5 cards. You can then choose up to 5 cards to hold from the first deal to the second. After the second deal, you either win, or lose. The game offers the choice of having advice given, helping you to learn how to play the game and improve your overall statistics.

It seems to me that this game is less about playing, and more about learning how to play the game well. The game focuses on giving a player more advice on how to play, and teaching them what hands have the best point value. The controls are clunky, and the 18 pages of instructions almost put me to sleep. It was interesting to see how their advice went versus what my instincts told me to play, and how the scoring worked. It seemed like there were some glitches in the game as well, as my score never seemed to go up with wins, and continued to go down each hand.

Video Poker: Conclusion and Overall Rating

I’m going to agree with the reviews on Amazon and give Video Poker 2.5 stars. The controls were awkward, the game didn’t move very well, and I just didn’t want to keep playing. I’ll admit, I don’t play poker or really enjoy poker-style games. At the price, if you are a fan of poker, it can’t hurt to give this game a try.

Blackjack: Conclusion and Overall Rating

Surprisingly, I’m going to give Blackjack 4.5 stars. I have never been a fan of virtual gambling card games, mostly because I am not very good at playing them. However, this version of Blackjack was very simple to play, the explanations were clear, and it was a lot of fun.

Once the biggest numbers are filled in, you can work from there, and an image begins to emerge. The game gives you two kinds of markers, squares and crosses. Squares are used to build the image, and the crosses are used to define spaces where you know the squares do not belong, and can help you get a better idea of what the image is.

The level is over once you have completed the image and filled in all the squares. The levels are timed, and you can go back at any time to a puzzle and solve it again in order to earn a better time.

Every Word: Crossings – Review Introduction

Every Word: Crossings is a word puzzle game from Amazon Digital Services. This game was originally released in September 2011. Every Word: Crossings is a free game and is currently rated 4.6 stars, with over 30 customer reviews on Amazon.

Every Word: Crossings – Main Takeaways

Every Word: Crossings is similar to the original Every Word, in that you are given letter tiles and blank slots, and asked to form words. The difference comes in that this version of Every Word is in crossword puzzle format. There are once again two formats to this game, the timed version and relaxed version as well.

Kindle Every Word: Crossings Active Content-Game in Play

Every game starts with 5 or more letter tiles at the top, and in order to pass to the next level, you must find at least one word using all the letter tiles available. Once you find the longest word, you can continue to find words for more points, or you can move on to the next level, same as in the previous game.

Kindle Every Word: Crossings Active Content-Game in Play, Level Completed

This version does have the same draw back as the first game, however. You always have the choice to resume the game where you left off, or to start a new game. However, when you start a new game, you must start again at level one.

Every Word: Crossings – Conclusion and Overall Rating

Amazon knew they had a hit with Every Word, and this sequel is definitely a hit as well. Every Word: Crossings is addictive and fun, with enough of a challenge to make you think but not enough to make your head hurt.  I’d give Every Word: Crossings a 5 star review, and suggest you give it a try if you liked the original game or if you like word games at all.

While I like the traditional game, this version didn’t go over well with me. I spent over 30 minutes playing this game, and never managed to solve a single puzzle, no matter the difficulty level. Personally, I give the game 2.5 stars, but if you are a big fan of the original game, I’d suggest giving this one a try.
